A man facing a murder charge after a person delivering food in Miami Gardens fatally shot a suspect who allegedly tried to rob him made his first appearance in a Miami-Dade courtroom on Wednesday as new details were learned about what led to the shooting.

Jabari Joshua Thomas, 19, is facing charges of second-degree felony murder and armed robbery in the Aug. 6 incident.

According to an arrest warrant, a food delivery man was dropping off an order of banana pudding in the 20300 block of Northwest 34th Court when Thomas and another man, 20-year-old Demetrius Tromain Travis, tried to rob him.

Thomas got into the backseat of the victim’s car and at one point, allegedly put a gun to the driver’s head, the warrant said.

The suspect were also trying to access the driver’s CashApp when the driver pulled out his own gun and opened fire, the warrant said.

Travis was shot in the leg, chest and face, and airlifted to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The shooter stayed at the scene and wasn’t charged.

Witnesses said a second suspect was seen fleeing the scene and running toward a white vehicle, and police issued a “Be On the Lookout” for the car.

The vehicle was later found in Miramar and Thomas was taken into custody, police said.

Thomas is being blamed for the murder because the killing happened during the alleged armed robbery.

He appeared in court in Miami-Dade on Wednesday where he was ordered held without bond. If convicted he could face life in prison.
