A man is facing charges after a decomposing body was found inside a car at a shopping plaza in northwest Miami-Dade, authorities said.

Darrell Anderson, 39, was arrested Monday on charges including failure to report a death with intent to conceal, dealing in stolen property, and grand theft of a vehicle, an arrest report said.

According to the report, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Northside Shopping Plaza at 7900 Northwest 27th Avenue back on May 27 for a vehicle in the parking lot with flies surrounding it and a foul odor.

Deputies found the Kia K4 sedan and inside there were two rubber yoga mats on top of what appeared to be human remains.

The man, 36-year-old Jean Paul Larice, the owner of the car, was in the backseat in an advanced stage of decomposition, the report said.

Investigators determined Anderson had been in the car on May 23, when it was driven by an unknown male, the report said.

Anderson told investigators Larice was in the backseat unconscious and slumped over as he and the unknown male visited several liquor stores, the report said.

He said at some point on May 24, he realized Larice was dead, and he said the other male left, leaving him with the car for about one and a half days while he decided what to do with the vehicle and the victim’s body, the report said.

At one point, Anderson pawned the Larice’s cellphone, and he was later seen on surveillance video at the shopping plaza getting out of Larice’s car and fleeing, the report said.

Anderson was booked into jail and appeared in bond court on Tuesday where he was appointed a public defender.

“Okay, interesting case, not the ones we see everyday,” Judge Mindy Glazer said during the hearing.

Glazer set his bond at $10,000.

Authorities said Larice’s cause of death is still being investigating. It was unknown whether any other arrests have been made.
