A man has been arrested on attempted murder and other charges after a woman said she was followed and brutally beaten while walking home in Miami, police said.

Eddie Zewayne Bussey, 28, was arrested Tuesday on charges including kidnapping, attempted sexual battery, attempted second-degree murder, burglary, strongarm robbery, battery by strangulation, indecent exposure, tampering with a victim, giving a false name or identity after arrest, criminal mischief, battery on an officer, and resisting an officer with violence, Miami-Dade jail records showed.

According to an arrest report, the 40-year-old victim said she had been at a club in the 2300 block of N. Miami Avenue with friends until sometime between 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. on Aug. 14, when she left and began walking northbound on Biscayne Boulevard toward her home because her phone’s battery was drained and she was able to request a rideshare.

As she was walking she said noticed a man she didn’t know, later identified as Bussey, following her and yelling lewd remarks toward her, the report said.

She said she crossed Biscayne Boulevard to get away but he continued to follow her for about 20 blocks, until she found a well-lit building in the 4700 block of Biscayne Boulevard.

The woman said she entered the lobby then rode the elevator to the 12th floor to find someone who could help her, but when she couldn’t find anyone she returned to the lobby and saw the suspect enter the building, the report said.

She said he approached and punched her, knocking her to the floor, before he started kicking her several times, the report said.

He then dragged her by her hair to a mail room, where he continued to punch, kick and choke her while holding her down and preventing her from leaving, the report said.

She said he choked her to the point she couldn’t breathe and at one point lifted her dress and touched her privates, the report said.

The victim said money fell from her dress, which he grabbed, but eventually she was able to escape the building and run to a nearby CVS for help, the report said.

Investigators later obtained surveillance footage that showed the suspect entering the building and exposing himself before the physical altercation ensued, the report said.

It also showed him attacking her in the mailroom, making comments like “I’ll rape you” and “I’ll kill you” before he touched her, the report said.

The victim suffered multiple injuries including bruising and discoloration to her face, lips, throat, back, ribs, hip and thing, as well as a laceration to her cheek.

DNA was obtained from the victim’s dress and an AirPod left behind by the attack and were matched to Bussey, the report said.

Bussey was later taken into custody and confirmed he’d been walking on Biscayne Boulevard but said he walked home, then admitted he was at the building where the attack happened but said he was there to charge his phone, the report said.

He then claimed that while he was there, a woman was making racist remarks and spit on him, so he beat her, dragged her by her hair and choked her, the report said.

While authorities were trying to get his DNA sample, he became irate and spit on a detective, then spit on two sergeants, the report said.

Bussey continued to struggle with officers and kicked the wall and door in an interview room, causing damage, the report said.

Bussey was booked into jail and expected to appear in bond court on Wednesday. Attorney information wasn’t available.

A woman who works in the building spoke with NBC6 about security there.

“Usually this door is open but to go in the garage late it has to be people who have access, I’m an owner and have a key to go in,” she said.
