A man accused of organizing multiple intersection takeovers across Miami-Dade County through social media has been arrested, authorities said.

Darrin Marcos Lopez, 24, was arrested Tuesday on 10 counts of coordinated drag racing on a highway, 9 counts of aggravated riot of over 25 people, and 10 counts of accessory after the fact, an arrest report said.

According to the report, Lopez hosted and promoted organized intersection takeovers on July 5 and Aug. 2 at multiple locations throughout Miami-Dade.

He used an Instagram chat group with over 250 participants to organize the takeovers, where intersections were shut down so drivers could perform donuts and other reckless maneuvers while spectators watch and record, the report said.

Authorities said at each location listed, between 60 and 80 vehicles were seen blocking the intersection and 100-120 participants were seen standing around each intersection.

On Aug. 2, Lopez was seen driving a Honda Accord used to block traffic in the 2400 block of Northwest 77th Terrace, and he fled at a high rate of speed when authorities arrived, the report said.

When he was taken into custody at his home on Tuesday, the Accord was in the driveway, the report said.

Lopez was booked into jail and set to appear in bond court on Wednesday. Attorney information wasn’t available.

Investigators said three people were hurt in one of the July 5 takeovers, including a woman who suffered severe head trauma.

That same morning at Northwest 77th Court and Northwest 169th Street, another takeover led to a sheriff’s deputy being hurt.

Multiple other suspects have been arrested for taking part in the takeovers, including Damiean Alvarez and Anthony Brandon Lamelas.
