Florida on Monday will start a month-long sales-tax “holiday” for back-to-school shoppers, along with eliminating sales taxes on other types of items.
From July 20 through Thursday, Aug. 20, shoppers will be able to avoid paying sales taxes on clothes, shoes and backpacks that cost $100 or less, school supplies that cost $50 or less, learning aids that cost $30 or less and personal computers that cost $1,500 or less.
While Florida has held back-to-school tax holidays of varying lengths in most years, lawmakers in 2025 approved making it an every-August occurrence.
The following items included in the tax holiday are broken down into four categories, and they include but are not limited to:
Learning aids $30 or less
- Interactive Books
- Puzzles
- Flashcards
- Memory games
- Toys that teach reading or math skills
School supplies $50 or less
- Binders and folders
- Notebooks
- Pens, pencils, highlighters and crayons
- Lunch boxes
- Glue
- Rulers
Clothing, footwear $100 or more
- Accessories
- Backpacks
- Pants
- Shoes
- Shirts
- Sleepwear
- Sweaters
- Swimsuits
Personal computers and accessories $1,500 or less
- Calculators
- Data storage devices
- Headphones
- Laptops
- Flash drives
- Microphones
- Printers
- Software
- Tablets
