One person is in critical condition and another shooter is on the run after gunfire erupted near a busy gas station in northwest Miami-Dade Wednesday evening, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. near a Mobil gas station at Northwest 12th Avenue and 103rd Street.

Investigators said two men got into an argument before both pulled out guns and began firing.

One of the shooters was struck by gunfire and drove himself to North Shore Hospital. He was later transported to Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.

The other shooter left the scene in what investigators believe was a black sedan.

Authorities said the shooting happened either at or immediately next to the gas station during rush hour. A red car parked at one of the gas pumps was also struck by gunfire.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said it was fortunate no innocent bystanders were injured.

“We urge the community if they saw anything or were here to witness what had occurred, if they could please reach out to us,” MDSO spokesperson Daniel Castillo said. “An innocent bystander could have been struck by the senseless shooting that occurred at the gas station.”

Investigators are continuing to search for the second shooter.
