Miami Hurricanes running back Jordan Lyle is accused of driving away from a police officer at estimated speeds of 130 mph, an arrest affidavit revealed Tuesday.

Lyle, 20, was arrested on Aug. 13 and faces charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding at a high speed and reckless driving, according to the affidavit from the Sunrise Police Department.

The incident happened on July 10, when a Sunrise Police officer observed a gray BMW speeding in the area near the Sawgrass Expressway north of the West Sunrise Boulevard entrance ramp.

The officer, who was conducting traffic enforcement, registered that the BMW was going 92 mph in a 65-mph speed zone, the affidavit stated.

As the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the BMW “failed to yield and rapidly accelerated from (the officer),” police said.

The affidavit stated that the officer estimated the BMW drove approximately 130 mph through “significant Friday evening traffic,” rapidly weaved in and out between vehicles, followed slower ones closely, and used an outside shoulder to pass other drivers.

As the BMW sped away, police eventually lost contact with it. The officer later found the vehicle was registered to Lyle.

Days later, detectives used Ring surveillance video to connect the 20-year-old to the reckless driving, the affidavit said. Lyle voluntarily arrived at the Sunrise Police Department to give a statement under oath.

Lyle is out on bond. The UM Athletics Department said in a previous statement that they were aware of the incident and had no further comment.

Lyle, a junior, is from Fort Lauderdale and attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School before UM.

He played in six games last season with two starts, rushing for 108 yards and one touchdown.
