A suspect who led a pursuit in Miami Gardens while shooting at officers was arrested after the chase came to an end on Monday morning, according to the Opa-locka Police Department.

Opa-locka Police said their officers were assisting the Miami Gardens Police Department during “an active vehicle pursuit involving a subject connected to a felony investigation.”

That subject opened fire at law enforcement while fleeing from Miami Gardens into Opa-locka, police said.

Miami Gardens Police Chief Delma Noel-Pratt said just before 10 p.m. Sunday, officers got a call about shots fired into the home.

When an officer got there to investigate, police say the shooter came back and fired shots at the detective who then shot back.

Police chased the suspect to Opa-locka, where a Miami Gardens officer was involved in a crash in the area of Northwest 22nd Avenue and Northwest 135th Street.

The chase came to an end when the suspect took off on foot in the area of Northwest 107th Street and Northwest 17th Avenue, according to authorities.

At some point, the suspect was shot by an officer and was taken to the hospital, police said.

That person was then taken into custody without further incident. Video showed a bullet hole in the back window of the suspect vehicle.

Police officers were not injured in the crash or shootout. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
